Bloody Streets: The Soviet Assault On Berlin April 1945

Bloody Streets: The Soviet Assault On Berlin April 1945
S. Hamilton
The backbone of Berlin’s defense was the German LVI Panzer Korps, newly formed and under strength. This unit bore the brunt of the Soviet attack along the Seelow Heights by Zhukov’s 5th Shock, 8th Guards, 1st and 2nd Guards Tank Armies. By pure chance, LVI Panzer Korps now found itself fighting in Berlin’s streets against the combined weight of seven separate Soviet Armies from both Zhukov’s and Koniev’s Fronts. Supporting the LVI Panzer Korps were various formations of the Volkssturm, Hitlerjugend, and Waffen-SS, as well as smaller ad hoc formations of foreign volunteers and locally formed units. All aspects of this battle are covered with new insights into how it was planned, shaped, and executed. 424pp. approx 325 photos. 60 maps. 8pp colour artwork. Large format. Due end September. Konigsberg: The Battle For East Prussia January 1945

Konigsberg: The Battle For East Prussia January 1945
Petter Kjellander
East Prussia was the first genuine part of the German home lands that fell to the Red Army in 1945. Already by 1944 some parts of East Prussia had been under the attack of the Soviets. The tragedy became complete in April 1945. The losses and horrors German civilians had to endure were tremendous. The Red Army showed its worst after the capture of East Prussia. The discovery of the Red Army's behavior in late 1944 in some of the border towns led to the most severe battles ever to be fought in East Prussia. The German army tried in vain to save the civilians from the Red Army onslaught. The battle for East Prussia ended with the siege of Königsberg and Pillau, April 1945.
It draws on sources from both the Russian archives giving the Red Army view and those from the German side gives a good balance, and it contains never before seen pictures of the fighting and a great number of maps and colour profiles of the AFVs being employed on both sides in the battle. 384pp. over 200 b/w photos. 60 colour profiles and approx 35 maps. The Glider Pilot Badge
Stijn David
The Glider Pilot Badge is among the rarest of all the qualification badges of the Luftwaffe of the Third Reich. The information about this badge is scarce. The infrequent and often contradictory information in the available publications and the very low number of original examples does not make it very easy for the collector to distinguish between the contemporary originals and copies, respectively fakes
Here for the first time is a comprehensive collection of such information. Not only are all of the currently known varieties of the badge illustrated and described in clear detail, but also details of the glider troops, plus accounts of various specific missions and a examinations of glider licences, award doucments along with presenation cases. The Italian Army at War Europe 1940-43 - Concord
Concord series
Much has been written about the major WWII antagonists such as Germany. However, one of the Third Reich's most ardent supporters. When Italy declared war on France and Great Britain 1940, it had a formidable total of 73 divisions. This new book from Concord Publications addresses a glaring gap in terms of providing photographic coverage of the Italian infantryman. It must be noted that this book exclusively covers the Italian Army in Europe, so North Africa is not included
Italian troops carried out occupation duties in Greece, Albania and Yugoslavia. The other major area of combat was in Russia, with large numbers of troops committed in support of the German effort. The photos are interesting in that they show all manner of uniform and personal weapon details, as well as ancillary equipment like motorbikes, tankettes, tanks, artillery pieces, mortars and wheeled vehicles. 52pp. 4 colour plates. 140 photos. The Korsun Pocket 1944

The Korsun Pocket 1944
Niklas Zetterling & Anders Frankson
Astonishing tale of the breakout from Korsun. Vivid description of one of the most dramatic battles of WWII. However, the Germans were able to avoid serious defeats. Then, in January 1944, a disaster happened. Six divisions of Army Group South became surrounded. The Germans’ greatest fear was the prospect of another Stalingrad, the catastrophe that had occurred precisely one year before. This time, though, von Manstein was in control from the start and he immediately rearranged his Army Group to rescue his trapped divisions. Leading the break-in was Franz Baeke with his Tiger and Panther-tanks. Due to both weather and ferocious resistance, the German drive stalled. Although the Germans within the pocket lost nearly all of their heavy weapons and left many wounded behind, their escape was effected. 320pp. 16pp photos. Delayed until end September

The SS Totenkopf Ring Himmler’s Honor Ring In Detail
Craig Gottlieb
Using modern tools not available to previous authors on this subject, Craig Gottlieb paints a comprehensive picture of the Totenkopf Ring and the man who was behind it - Reichsfuhrer-SS Heinrich Himmler. Gottlieb draws on a body of over 200 examples to document currently believed notions about the ring. He offers never before seen photos and documents, and even develops many new well-reasoned theories about the Totenkopf (Death Head) ring. The book also covers the pre-history of the Totenkopf ring, placing its appearance onto the "SS Scene" in historical context. Also covered are design background, construction techniques, and an in-depth analysis of the physical characteristics of rings.
Gottlieb also includes sections on award documents and frames, ring shipping boxes, and provides many never-before-seen photographs of rings in wear. Finally, he brings rings to life with an extensive personality profile chapter in which he illustrates several famous rings. 256pp. Over 200 b/w & colour photos. Copies due later in the year.
