Axis Forces in North Africa 1940-43, Concord series
Concord series
The Italian campaign in North Africa during WWII is an often-neglected topic, and isn't generally well covered in books. However, this latest volume in the popular Concord series goes a long way to remedying the situation. Not only are Italian forces covered, but also German forces. Features a much larger number of colour plates. In fact, there are no less than 44 color plates. This makes "Axis Forces in North Africa 1940-43" an indispensable reference for modelers and military enthusiasts wanting a comprehensive understanding of Italian and German uniforms in the North African theater. Each plate is beautifully rendered in full colour and sharp detail, with the accompanying text providing a high degree of detail about uniforms and personal equipment on display. 52pp. 44 colour plates, 101 b/w photos. Battle in the East: The German Army in Russia Concord
Concord series
This issue is all about the infantry at the core of Germany's military exploits in the enormous expanse of Russia. The opening text delves into the complexities of the standard German infantry division. Though usually short on motorized transport, these self-contained combined-arms units fought extremely effectively, penetrating almost to the gates of Moscow. The introduction includes a detailed table of organization listing all major and minor subunits (usefully provided in both English and German). It then proceeds with an annotated description of key divisional components. The excellent collection of black and white photos forms the centerpiece. These photos show infantrymen from the early days of the conflict through to much later periods. Members of many branches are on display, for example, artillery, assault pioneers, military police, antitank, reconnaissance and infantry. This book also features a set of four colour plates expertly illustrated by Stephen Andrew. 52pp. 138 photos. 4 colour plates

Fighting Withdrawal - The German Retreat in the East 1944-45
Corncord series
This book begins with a concise explanation of the situation in 1944-45, and how German units were organized to try and overcome acute shortages of personnel. Additional divisions were raised in the form of Luftwaffe field divisions, Waffen-SS divisions manned by non-Germanic recruits, and Volkssturm (this name translates as 'People's Assault') units filled with those too young or too old for regular units. The book then proceeds to exhibit German soldiers from this time period in a series of black and white photos. While most photographs portray soldiers, several also show equipment like tanks and transport vehicles. The uniforms and weapons of these soldiers as they retreated westward are on full display, and the selection of photos will no doubt provide plenty of modeling inspiration or historical information. The photo content even extends to showing Volkssturm personnel in the closing weeks of the war. 52pp. 139 photos. 4 colour plates

Into the Cauldron - Das Reich on the Eastern Front Concord

Into the Cauldron - Das Reich on the Eastern Front Concord
Concord Series In his previous volume, Robert Michulec examined the role of "Das Reich" in the invasion of France. This latest work provides an invaluable partner as it looks at the participation of "Das Reich", now established fully as a Waffen SS division, on the Eastern Front. The volume commences with a description of the "Das Reich" Division as it took part in Operation Barbarossa, the invasion of the Soviet Union from 22 June 1941 onwards. What followed was a stunning series of victories that swept "Das Reich" and other German units across the vast Russian steppes to the very gates of Moscow. However, stiffening Soviet resistance and frigid winter conditions brought the momentum of the assault to a grinding and deadly halt. After refitting in France, the division returned to the Eastern Front and participated in combat in places like Kharkov and in the momentous Battle of Kursk in July 1943. After this, "Das Reich" was involved in the bitter retreat back to the borders of the Fatherland, including episodes such as the effort to relieve the Korsun Pocket, as well as combat in Hungary. 52pp. 134 photos. 4 colour plates

Into the Cauldron Das Reich in France 1940: Concord
Concord Warrior series
Following the usual format of other books in the Warrior 6500 series, this volume contains 52 pages, with a four-page colour section in the center. This central segment features four colour plates by talented illustrator Dmitriy Zgonnik. They show four "Das Reich" soldiers dressed in various types of uniform and equipped with a range of weaponry, while the accompanying text elaborates points of interest. The heart of the book is the collection of black and white photographs showing "Das Reich" troops from the 1940 period. Coverage commences with training photos in early 1940, and the content then documents the campaign in France. Many photos contain excellent close-up details of uniforms, personal equipment and personal weapons. A great number are "in-action" photos, and they show auxiliary equipment such as motorcycles, wheeled vehicles, halftracks, armored vehicles and antitank weapons 52pp. 134 photos. 4 colour plates

Luftwaffe Field & Flak Divisions
Concord series
The Luftwaffe, part of Goring's "empire", started WWII in dramatic fashion as it spearheaded the invasion of Poland and the West. However, mounting losses (e.g. 92 aircraft on the opening day of Operation Barbarossa alone) and sharp reverses at El Alamein and Stalingrad punctuated the Luftwaffe's long decline. From late 1942 onwards, Luftwaffe ground forces grew in number in both flak (antiaircraft) and field units, and these form the subject for this new book. The Luftwaffe was eventually to form a staggering two mechanized divisions, ten parachute and 21 field divisions, thus duplicating the role of the Wehrmacht. 52pp 135 photos. 4 colour plates. The Fall of Monte Cassino: Concord book

The Fall of Monte Cassino: Concord book
> Concord series
The Battle of Monte Cassino involved almost the full spectrum of Allied nations - USA, France, New Zealand, India, Great Britain, and Poland - fighting against their battle-hardened German nemesis. However, the author has selected the final battle as the main focus for this title. While the book's introduction begins with a concise summary of the individual battles, it quickly moves on to a deeper examination of II Polish Corps, which played a principal role in the final bloody capture of the town of Monte Cassino and its famous monastery. The Poles suffered a staggering total of almost 4000 casualties, and it is said that the red poppies that cover Monte Cassino's slopes in spring owe their color to the blood spilt by these Polish soldiers!
This work by the experienced writer Gordon Rottman first covers the German forces in a series of black-and-white photos, with many of them featuring Fallschirmjager paratroopers that fought so tenaciously. The coverage then proceeds to the Polish force, including both infantry and armor troops. The photos are well chosen and give the reader a good feel for the conditions at the time, as well as the typical uniforms and equipment that were in use by both sides. 52pp. 134 photos

The Italian Army at War Europe 1940-43 - Concord
Concord series
Much has been written about the major WWII antagonists such as Germany. However, one of the Third Reich's most ardent supporters. When Italy declared war on France and Great Britain 1940, it had a formidable total of 73 divisions. This new book from Concord Publications addresses a glaring gap in terms of providing photographic coverage of the Italian infantryman. It must be noted that this book exclusively covers the Italian Army in Europe, so North Africa is not included
Italian troops carried out occupation duties in Greece, Albania and Yugoslavia. The other major area of combat was in Russia, with large numbers of troops committed in support of the German effort. The photos are interesting in that they show all manner of uniform and personal weapon details, as well as ancillary equipment like motorbikes, tankettes, tanks, artillery pieces, mortars and wheeled vehicles. 52pp. 4 colour plates. 140 photos.
